Modified Krackow suture for Achilles tendon repair: surgical technique description and follow up of 14 cases

Abstract

Objective: To describe the giftbox technique for Achilles repair, a modification of the Krackow technique, performed in 14 patients. Methods: Fourteen patients that had been submitted to the giftbox technique for Achilles tendon repair were evaluated in 2013-2014. The post-operative follow-up was between 12-20 months. Patients were examined considering Achilles tendon rerupture and return to work functions. Results: None No Achilles rerupture was observed and patients returned to work fucions in 12-20 weeks. Conclusion: The simple giftbox technique presented a low rate of rerupture. Returning to work was similar to other techniques. The technique does not promote cause additional constriction on to the repaired tendon.
