Floating metatarsal and Turf Toe injury: case report

The floating metatarsal is a unique type of injury in which themetatarsal is dislocated both at the Lisfranc joint, and at themetatarsophalangeal joint. The term “Turf Toe” has been used todescribe the lesions of the plantar aspect of the ligament complex ofthe first metatarsophalangeal joint, caused by hyperextension of thehallux. We present a rare case in which the patient, after falling froma horse, presented a first floating metatarsal with associated tear ofthe sesamoid complex (Turf Toe), as well as fractures in the 2nd and3rd metatarsals.Downloads
