Schwannoma of the medial plantar nerve
a case report with diagnostic delay

The schwannoma is the most benign peripheral nerve tumor, being its presence in the lower limbs nerves exceptional. We present a clinical case of a 56 years old man with 30 years history of symptoms with different diagnosis such as plantar fascitis, pathology related to the spine requiring multiple consultations. The symptoms included paresthesias, swelling and pain in the sole of the foot. A palpable diffuse mass was observed on the plantar and medial surfaces of the right foot. The magnetic resonance showed a suggestive image of schwannoma. The patient was surgicaly and the histology confirmed the diagnosis. At 1 year follow-up the patient was asymptomatic.
