Ankle osteoarthritis secondary to hyperuricemia

Abstract

Gout is a condition characterized by the accumulation of monosodium urate crystals either within or on the periphery of the joints, the condition of the ankle is common than may have serious functional consequences. We report the case of a 24 year old male patient with a family history of hyperuricemia by both parents, who begins his condition three years ago with pain right ankle level associated with sport, which in the last six months increased so important finding the right ankle with increased volume, pain and limitation of range of movement in flexion and extension from 0° to 25°, palpable in the heel region mass, pain on extension of the first finger, which was assessed with obtaining scale AOFAS ankle 67 points. Arthroscopy findings and the technical details of this are discussed. The reporting of such cases is important because of the frequency of high-level affection on ankle, willing to expand treatment options.
