Bone block graft from calcaneus for foot and ankle reconstruction

Abstract

Objective: To demonstrate the clinical and radiographic results of the use of calcaneus block graft in foot and ankle reconstruction. Methods: It’s a retrospective study of eight patients, with a mean age of 44 years undergoing reconstruction in the foot and ankle using graft calcaneus block. Patients were evaluated radiographically regarding the consolidation of the graft and clinically through the AOFAS score and satisfaction with the procedure performed. Results: After a mean follow-up of 20 months, the patients showed improvement in AOFAS score an average of 42 points preoperatively to an average of 83 points after the procedure. Only one patient had nonunion, but not required reintervention for lack of symptoms. All patients were satisfied with the procedure, two with reservation. Conclusion: The use of calcaneus block graft in foot and ankle reconstruction has a high consolidation rate, few complications with a high degree of satisfaction and significant clinical improvement.
