Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and possible complications in the treatment of acute Achilles tendon ruptures using the surgical method of Bosworth modified for adults, amateur sportsmen. The surgical technique for healing of Achilles tendon ragged idealized by Bosworth has been abandoned due to the broad surgical access required by the method. Methods: In this study, 18 adults, sports enthusiasts, were interviewed and examined, with total tendon rupture, subjected to this procedure to assess the effectiveness and possible complications. Results: In this assessment, 13 patients (72.2%) returned to the same level of physical activity, and 5 patients (27.7%) did not return. Two patients (11.1%) had superficial infection and dehiscence, both with good development and no case of rerupture was observed. Pain, loss of strength or mobility reduction was not a common complaint being aesthetics afforded the factor assessed with lesser satisfaction. All patients would make the same procedure again. Conclusion: The technique of Bosworth modified gave good functional results, in which aesthetics showed a limitation to its use, being a valid option to adopt in the treatment of Achilles tendon rupture.Downloads
